What is Dune, you may be asking?

What is Dune? Are you shitting me? 

Dune is considered a sci-fi legend. The titular and first novel in the franchise is one of the best selling pieces of sci-fi lit ever bound. Let’s take a look at the wikipedia synopsis of the first novel, shall we?

Set in the far future amidst a sprawling feudal interstellar empire where planetary fiefdoms are controlled by noble houses that owe an allegiance to the Imperial House Corrino Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides (the heir apparent to Duke Leto Atreides and the heir of House Atreides) as he and his family accept control of the desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the “spice” melange, the most important and valuable substance in the universe. The story explores the complex and multi-layered interactions of politics, religion, ecology, technology, and human emotion, as the forces of the Empire confront each other for control of Arrakis and its “spice”

Frank Herbert wrote six novels before his death, considered to be the core of the series, and are the ones that I am going to focus on. His son, Brian Herbert, has continued the series, including two trilogies of prequels, but seeing as I haven’t really read those, you’re own your own for that journey, cap’n.

The first novel was adapted to film in 1984 by David Lynch, starring (surprise, surprise, do you ever cast anyone else david?) Twin Peaks baby boy Kyle MacLachlan! I know some of you are all in to that Twin Peaks shit, so that’s really the only reason I brought that up, just roll with it, trying to peak your interest, heheheh.

In 2000, the Sci-Fi Network (now known as Syfy or whateverthefuck) adapted the first novel into a three episode miniseries! Torrent here.
